A father was granted his Chrismas wish to spend the day with his family after being separated from them for years. That's because a brutal attack nearly killed him. Instead, Richard Smith has lived his life as a quadriplegic since that day. While his family is hoping the Smith's case will be reopened so justice can finally be served, today, the family focused on the task at hand, celebrating the holidays together.

A program called "Home For The Holidays" made the day possible. It helps patients who normally can't go home due to strict 24 hour medical care needs. Smith surprised his family, especially his daughter, Serena. She said, "Usually I just get toys and clothes but to see my dad would be the best present."Smith says he knows he'll never have a normal life due to his delicate condition, but says he's happy just knowing for one day, he was able to be with the ones that matter most.
