Shiva is also the God whose signs have been found in the most ancient history of this land. In Indus Valley civilization, a civilization which is claimed to be older than Vedic times, artifacts of Shiva lingam are found.

In Kundalini Yoga also Shiva occupies a place of Supreme importance. Kundalini Yoga, these days is very popular not only here but also abroad. According to this yoga Shiva, in the form of lingam rests in Sashrar- a destination Kundalini has to reach.
Shiva creates huge magnetic force at the bottom of spine. It is here that Kundalini rests nestled up in three and an half coils. The entire sadhana is around meeting of Kundalin in muladhar with Shiva in sahashrar. Kundalini has to rise and travel from the bottom of spinal cord to the center of head where Shiva abodes.
Shiva is inert and does nothing. It takes no interest in day to day activities. But this is misnomer as Shiva may not be active himself but releases his Shakti which runs the world.
Shiva’s Shakti expands gradually and come to stay in all creations. It takes the form of maya(illusion) for each creatures of the universe. One is busy in the illusory world taking every thing as real. But it is all play of Shiva.
Only when the maya-shakti is overcome with the grace of Shiva, that a creature returns to its original home from where he has come into this world. His original home is Shiva. Let us come together and pray Shiva on this auspicious occasion to free us of this maya(illusion) and show us our real home.
